Production - Rough cut

I had originally started the editig for our groups music video but unfortunately lost all my editing due to a fault in Final Cut Pro, it pulled me right down :'(

I then fell ill, which then Qudus stepped in to edit. He made a good job of the rough cut and has made it better to the final product.

My ideas and creativity were given into the editing which shots should go where etc, and it showcases through the final product.

Production - progress review blog

So i havent blogged in a while. Overall my blog post frequency has dropped immensely due to being ill majority of times... Theres been tension in the group as we've fallen out due to lack of communication.

Review on Editing: was annoying as we all wanted to put our own touch on it and contribute. Then got to the stage where one person was editing and no one else got to touch it.
I then started to do my own editing which  went okay considering i did it in a day. However it wont be shown as the final editing that Qudus produced will be our final music video, which is to a good standard.

Review on Filming: was good overall i felt myself, cindy and joyce put alot of time to get the shots we needed. Taking time out of school to get everything for the final product. Had abit of an issue moving as itis hard with the song we have but also with a big light blaring in my face! O_o
However we lacked not enough battery life on the lighting as the light would dim out really fast in out main location "bow arts lane" which is disappointing.

Review on blog: personally my own blog isnt going as well as it could be as i havent been blogging. I am trying to keep up now. I am quite disappointed in myself also for not blogging frequently and creatively :( it saddens me that i have been slipping up lately but i am soon to get back up and get back on track!

Production - Progress review blog

Individual blog count would be a total of 91! WOOP WOOP! ^_^

PRODUCTION - Progress Review Blog

Production - Finished yo! :D

So, after two gruelling weeks we've managed to finish off our music video into a final piece edited completely.

Production - Teacher feedback about final piece

Production - Progress Review blog

Looking at the blog overall i can say that the blog posts have improved. The quality of the blog posts are better and use of media is more varied.

Details of research, planning and construction stages in blog

The research and planning and construction section of the blog are stronger than than my most recent blog posts. Considering my individual posts I feel that I used more ICT in the earlier blog posts where as my most recent blog posts (Production) contain less variety of ICT. This is because this section of the course was very demanding and contained mainly group posts, I will now try to update my individual posts using different ICT instead of just text.

Dance shots - Crediting Choreographers + Disclaimer

I danced in the music video and i did a dance cover to two pieces of choreography and also did my own original choreography. A little or some of these shots will be seen in the music video therefore it is important that i credit the choreographers. I do not claim that these are my own choreography in any shape or form :)

This Choreo is by Lindsey Blaufarb, Maryss from Paris + Rino Nakasone from the Beatfreaks
This choreography is by Parris Goebel

Production - Rough cut - Skills development

Editing is not my strongest skill, despite this i was able to observe Kim and Qudus (allocated as main editors as agreed) editing the music video and learnt different skills such as inputting effects from within final cut pro. My contribution to the editing is definitely my ideas and assistance, also taking demands such as going out to re-take shots when needed.

Production - Skills development

A brief overview of new editing skills that i've learned during the editing of our music video? Oh so that was literally everything except for cutting, how to import files and putting on markers.

New editing skills:
  • Strobe light effect
  • Duplicate
  • Cutting between scenes very fast
  • Cutting to the beat (harder than it seems!)
  • Re-framing
  • Speed up/slowed down
  • An 'in' and 'out' effect - no idea what it's called really... :s
  • HSV adjust
  • Gamma Correction
  • Dissolves
  • Swipes

Production - Improvements needed before deadline!

Production - Researching filters

I've been planning on using some filters on the music video and have been looking at numerous tutorials on Youtube, getting comments from friends and teachers about filters and effects which i can use within our music video. Some filters/effects which i intend to use are Gamma Correction, HSV adjust, Dissolves etc.

The tutorial below shows a filter which we may be using - HSV adjust/colour correction.

The tutorial below shows a filter which we have already used in the into which is the additive dissolve and will most likely be used at the ending.

This video below has random effects and filters on it which i'll be using in our music video, also in the description there is a list of the effects.

Production - Teacher comments

Below is the feedback which we received from Louisa.
I think the main part which we've focused in changing in light of the feedback, is the structure. We've focused on this by clearly showing off the chorus as it is up beat by having faster editing, i think this will be effective as we'll be also adding in skaters and Cindy dancing to go with the 'urban' vibe of the music video and the artist!

Another part which we've tried to focus on is the shot types, as some footage of skaters have been added in the updated rough cut and almost all the shots vary which adds a good edge with both movement in the camera work and in the footage.

Another part where we messed up was there werent enough figrigs when majority of our footage was taken! This reduced the amount of movement we could add in. However we then started to use figrig after school in our locations getting movement with the figrig.

Production - Updated rough cut

These past 2 weeks have been beyond hectic! Heres an updated rough cut which is fully cut up etc. but hasn't got any filters and effects.

Production - Feedback from target audience (updated rough cut)

So we've asked our target audience what they think of our music video most of which were really good due to it being my first time editing, having a short time to edit as well as having static footage. Heres their responses!

Production - Extra footage for movement

Below is a weather report of the day on which i went filming for extra footage and a vlog which i need to apologise for is below rubbish quality so bare with me guys! :D

Production - My home girl Whitney!

I just have to give a shout out to my home girl WHITNEY!!! She's literally A-MAZ-ING! She has helped me so much through the editing process whether it was asking to help put markers to the beat or help on lip snyching. Which I've constantly been bugging her about whilst she's been editing her own music video, and as always beyond thankful!!! So...

PLANNING Skills Audit

My blog posts from AS were quite vague I had a tendency of summarising things and leaving out the all important details e.g whys and wheres. So far I've found my A2 blogposts consists of more detail and description I've followed guidelines given to us to produce  well written posts. Another thing I noticed always is the variation if media used to create my blogposts. A year ago I would constantly be posting paragraphs with a picture in the side , however now I am using a good variation of  ICT such as prezi, kizoa, timetoast and much more. Thing is good as it shows how I am skilled in different softwares.

In A2 we create music videos and as we've come to learn the way of editing is much different. A big difference is the cutting of the clip, more jump cuts are used and other exaggerated edits. This means it will probably involve much more technical skills which I feel confident about as I have developed them this last year . The fact that music videos do not follow rules of continuity means I get to be creative when it comes to editing yet be cautious not to make it look amateur.

PRODUCTION Prioritizing

So I found this interesting fun way to prioritize it's called 'Remember the Milk' and I thought I'd share. I'm finding it really useful seeing as I can make lists of things I have to do and tick them off as I go along. There are many websites that are made for the same reason but I think I enjoy this one specifically due to it's catchy name.
Hopefully with this new discovery, I don't fall behind on my blog posts.

PRODUCTION RELAX

We aim on helping Kim get used to the camera in her face MOVEMENT

PRODUCTION Lacking basic skills

Unfortunately this is our group, communication is an area we have got to work hard in.

Production - FINAL WEEK! Stressing? Nah...

PLANNING Reflection On Progress blog

On my previous blog posts of reflection the subject I never failed to bring up was posting on time, and guess what I am doing it again ! I have a personal blog which I do upload on a regular basis therefore this shouldn't be quite as hard. Well, I wouldn't say I find this hard as there photo above explains, I'm quite a procrastinator though that's not a valid reason, if I'm able to upload my personal post whats the difference here ay?! I ask myself that question everyday. Recently having a discussion with my tutor she made me realize that I need to look at life in the long run as a opposed to what I'm doing now.
My posts aren't posted regularly still there was a point were I believed I was getting better with timing and the actual context within but since then I've found myself struggling with the timing and the creative ways to display my post have been slacking. From this moment I'd like to believe my post will be up regularly and be displayed using a variety of softwares.
With filming the music video I'd say my technical skills have improved because seeing as I am not in the actual video I'm able to be behind the scenes and actually be part of filming the shots and directing Kym.
Out of filming, editing and blogging I would say I much prefer the filming I feel I am able to do my best when filming whereas e.g. with editing I do have skills though I feel peers in my group more advanced therefore I'd feel very wrong editing alone, it would feeling as if due to my editing my group would have a final music video appearing quite amateur.

Production - Helping hands go a long way!

Thursday afternoon and i'm editing alone but then Khadeedee (group 21) happened! :D She looked through my rough cut and liked it but saw that we lacked movement and some effects, and saw that i was in distress so she lent a helping hand like the good samaritan she is. Thanks!

Production - Editing in static :S

So, the past week i've been trying to edit our footage to go with the beats within the track but its been even harder due to the fact of beyond static footage - the camera work aswell as the movement. I've asked the group to go filming for further footage and see from there and see whether they would be good to add in.

Production - Bordem hits

So its the day before the rough cut deadline and bordem hits so i thought why not take a picture and make a vlog, Fahmida in the picture was helping me edit a little. Thanks!

Like i said in the vlog above, i was editing on my own today and had to completely redo the markers due to it messing up and no hitting correct beats, finished the first verse, started the chorus and added in a few other tracks of other locations.

Production - Reflection on filming overall

Production - Filming day 4

Pictures and Weather report from day 4
So our final location which we'll be filming in is Bow Art Lane and the weathers not looking too bad to record in but we'll be taking an umbrella with us just incase. Sadly this time there is no vlog due to it being erased somehow :/ but this will have to do.

Production - Well now for the boring bit...

So the first day which me and Cindy have been editing in was going quite well, we managed to put in markers aswell as fixing up the tracks.

Production - More shots please...

Production - Reflection on Filming

So far filming is going well. We have been checking over shots that we have taken and found that there was too little camera movement and little variety of camera angles, this will make our music video less exciting and unprofessional. So we will re-take some of the shots using a fig rig to film using movement of the camera such as panning, tracking, low angle, high angle shots.

The costume choices for our artist KIM was successful as it went with the theme of casual, urban and youthful. It was fitting to the locations which were also urban.

Production - Skills development

My approach to planning this production is different to my AS production work as time management was well thought through. Planning for filming at each location was clear and straight forward to avoid having to take re-shots. The great level of understanding and communication within the group was used to approach planning differently to my AS production work.

Production - Filming day 3

Pictures and Weather report from day 3
We decided to go filming in Southbank Skate Park on Sunday and the weather looked okay as we were filming in the skate park but we'll be taking an umbrella with us just in case it starts pouring out with rain!

Vlog on day 3
This vlog is of cindy and Joyce on their way to film some shots of cindy dancing for the music video. We are hoping to capture more physical movement which is currently lacking in some of our shots.
