PLANNING - Analysis of Music Videos that Influenced Decisions
I have chosen three music videos that somewhat influence our decisions and have some ideas that we have taken aboard our own music video! I will analyse them according to three media areas of camera, mise en scene and editing! lets start shall we...
Here we have "Ellie Goulding - Lights" Now from the start and throughout it contains alot of lights, flashing/flickering and moving which is what we want to incorporate into our music video as it has the link to LIGHT.
From the camera work I really like the long shots which helps viewers see what the artist is wearing helps us distinguish what kind of song, artist she is. We will definitely be using long shots! Also, a mid-shot of her singing which helps tie in audience, 'breaking the wall' as they call it. There is also a nice shot of her on the bottom left of the shot which plays with the Rule of Thirds, which is a nice effect. I'd really like to incorporate something like that into my music video.
The Mise en Scene used in the music video would be mainly lights, which is a MUST in our music video, itis very fun and creative but also great to work with. She also holds a tambourine in several base track, the artist in my music video will hold a glow stick or sparkler at some point which is very fun and playful. Also a part where she waves a light around, this will be done in our music video however with a glowstick or sparkler.
Lastly with the editing the blurred effect at the begging of lights so it becomes orbs is really cool as it comes into focus. Using it in our music video will be really effective.
This music video is also of Ellie Goulding's song - Burn. It is very fun and the use of lighting is again used really well. It has influenced our music video in various ways, starting with Camera. The long shot of the location and her outfit is very useful also shows what she is wearing. How viewers will establish her as an artist. I also really enjoy the tracking shots of her movement, the camera slowly follows which is really effective. We will definitely be incorporating this into our video but adjusting it to our own style. Within Mise en Scene, her clothing is very much like our ideas. Gold chain, all black clothing and hoodie, stylish but casual. They also use sparklers! The big circular lights in the video are really different, we may add something like this but adjusting it as we don't have a huge amount of money to work with to produce our music video. We may use candles laid out on floor, just as effective dontcha think? :)
The editing of the slow motion will also be incorporated in my own music video.
This song is Bastille - Of The Night, the opening is a tunnel. From camerawork is it just a long shot of the tunnel and although our tunnel wont be a motor way it is very similar. Also, shots include side profile of the girls standing behind yellow police tape. From Mise en Scene, the shot of the girls behind the yellow police tape, their outfits are very trendy and have similar look to what we want to pull off in our music video. From editing the journey inside the tunnel driving out is very effective, we will use something similar to this as the lighting in the tunnel is really interesting on camera.
